CO2 Footprint

000 (tCO2e)
tCO2 = Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent

How we do it
As an ethical and responsible travel company, we reduce our carbon footprint by designing trips that are low carbon impact and carefully calculating the impact with the help of an environmental consultancy. We then buy carbon credit equivalents to offset all emissions that cannot be reduced including those resulting from our day-to-day business operations. Our offsetting is done through an energy efficient stoves project in Kenya. On request, every traveller receives their own PDF offset certificate post-travel. Wild Guanabana is the first carbon-neutral travel company in the Middle East & North Africa. Note: We do not sell or issue flight tickets ourselves so consequently we don't offset those emissions.

What does offsetting mean anyway?
It's a way of reducing your ecological impact by 'neutralizing' the impact of your carbon footprint. Actions associated with travel amount to around a third of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Carbon offsetting offers a solution to reduce the impact of your travel by purchasing carbon credits that are invested in activities that reduce CO2. While this doesn't erase all of the environmental impact, it does serve to help reinvest into the planet and contribute to activities which help its conversation. For more information on Carbon offsetting read more from our partners ERCC Carbon and our Sustainable Travel International.

Just before dinner everyone assembles for the briefing of the tour, road signs, what to do and what not to do while you are on the road. Finally, we'll have 'the draw' to allocate Tuk Tuks for the next 6 days. Overnight stay at Sigiriya Elephas Hotel or similar.

  • Day 3: Sigiriya Rock Challenge & Dambana (B/D)

After commencing the day with breakfast at your hotel you will be transported to Sigiriya, the starting line where you will be briefed about the game rules and regulations for your 1st challenge at the infamous Sigirya Rock, an ancient city which became a world heritage site in 1982. You will endure the fortress and take a team photo on top of it. After the Sigiriya rock challenge you will ride towards Mahiyanganaya. On your way you will stop for the 2nd challenge which is to discover the Buduruvagala Archaeological Site in Bakamuna then proceed to Dambana for an overnight stay at Tikiri Villa or similar. SIGIRIYA TO MAHIYANGANAYA - 125km

  • Day 4: Visit Wadda Community (B/D)

1st challenge of the day will be in Dambana, the jungle village which is the home of the indigenous people of Sri Lanka. They preserve a direct line of descent from the island’s own Neolithic community. The challenge will be to communicate with Wadda and make a traditional bow & arrow out of natural materials. Next, on your way to Ella you will stop around Meegahakiula to experience the Sri Lanakan version of pillow fighting! "Kotta pora", a game during which two people sit on a bamboo stick and keep a hand behind them to hold them and use the other hand to hit each other with a pillow until one person of them falls down! This can be done on land or in water. Your next stop before Ella will be at Dunhinda Falls. The Dunhinda Falls is one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful waterfalls. The waterfall, which is 210 feet (64 m) high gets its name from the smoky dew drops spray, (Dun in sinhala means mist or smoke) which surrounds the area at the foot of the waterfall. To reach the waterfall you have to walk more than 1 km distance along a foot path. Along this foot path there are many native venders selling herbal drinks to refresh and rest. At the end of the path there is a secure stage constructed for viewers to see the waterfall. If you are brave enough you can reach the foot of the waterfall and cross the river and see the most beautiful view of the fall. We'll then proceed to Dabana for a overnight stay at Ella Gap Hotel or similar. MAHIYANGANAYA TO ELLA - 120km

Although the trek is about 2 hours each way it is physically challenging due to the steep ascends and the terrain which takes you through an area covered with bushes. The journey will take you up to the hill for a stupendous view of mountain ranges and the valley including the breath taking view of Little Adams Peak as well. It should be noted that the Ella rock is known as the highest peak of the Ella area. At afternoons it will feel quite tired to the travelers and the entire area gets covered with abiding clouds. After reaching your campsite you will be facing the last challenge of the day “Master chef ”.
